AA Certification in Udra Motorcycle Suit

The Udra motorcycle suit for Law Enforcement and Security Forces is certified with an AA rating according to the  EN 17092:2020 standard, offering maximum road safety without compromising user comfort.

But do you know exactly what the AA protection level implies? This post has all the answers. Throughout the article, we not only explain the most important aspects of the  EN 17092:2020 standard but also reveal the features of the Udra motorcycle suit and why it is the optimal garment for officers.

Let’s get started!

EN 17092:2020 Standard for Motorcyclist Protective Clothing

Since 2020, the  EN 17092:2020 standard has been in effect, aiming to certify protective clothing for motorcyclists designed for professional or recreational use.

How are the tests in the EN 17092:2020 standard?

They are much more realistic compared to its predecessor, the EN 13595 standard. The tests now better reflect real accident conditions on a motorcycle, differentiating body zones according to exposure levels, simulating real speeds, and adapting tests to various impact and abrasion resistance needs.

For example, previously, abrasion tests were done by rubbing the fabric with an abrasive material. Under  EN 17092:2020, they are performed in a much more realistic environment, simulating the fall of a 75 kg rider from a height of 1.75 meters onto a real road surface using a concrete slab, following the Darmstadt test protocol.

Earlier, we mentioned that the new standard distinguishes different body zones based on their exposure level. But what are these zones?

  • Zone 1: Shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees are the areas most exposed to impact, abrasion, and tearing. Therefore, impact protectors must be included in these areas.
  • Zone 2: Arms, back, buttocks, and the sides of the legs have a moderate risk of abrasion and tear damage. Here, the garments should incorporate fabrics that combine safety and comfort.
  • Zone 3: The chest, inner arms, and the back of the legs are least exposed to tear damage, allowing for the use of materials and fabrics that enhance user comfort.

It is worth noting that the  EN 17092:2020 standard evaluates not only aspects such as tear or abrasion resistance but also dimensional stability, chemical safety, and ergonomics. Thus, the results can indicate the quality and durability of the garments.

What are the protection levels in the  EN 17092:2020 standard?

The EN 13595 standard only had two protection levels, while the  EN 17092:2020 standard has five. After testing, garments are classified as follows:

  • AAA: The highest level of protection. These garments have high impact and abrasion resistance but significantly compromise user comfort, primarily intended for track use.
  • AA: Medium resistance to impact and abrasion, providing the perfect balance between protection, comfort, and flexibility.
  • A: Offer minimal protection against impact and abrasion. They are the most comfortable but also the least strict in terms of safety.
  • B: Protection against abrasion equivalent to class A but does not include impact protection.

C: A specialized class of impact protection modules without covering, designed solely to hold one or more protectors in place. They do not protect against abrasion and differentiate their placement mode, under clothing (U) or over it (O).

AA Certification in the Udra Motorcycle Suit for Security Forces

The Udra motorcycle suit by Partenon has an AA certification according to the  EN 17092:2020 standard. This guarantees a high level of road safety without compromising the comfort of officers, allowing them to perform various activities precisely and efficiently: emergency operations, chases, patrol duties…

Additionally, did you know that it perfectly adapts to temperature changes? The mesh fabric on the outer layer promotes breathability, while the removable windproof lining on the inner layer protects officers from cold and wind.

Furthermore, it includes various elements designed to offer greater safety, ergonomics, and adaptability in any situation, even the most demanding ones. For example, thermo-fixed reflective elements enhance night visibility.

Outer Layer of the Udra Motorcycle Suit: Maximum Resistance and Breathability

It is made from a combination of highly abrasion-resistant elastic materials, strategically distributed according to the different risk zones of the  EN 17092:2020 standard. Additionally, it incorporates mesh fabric to improve breathability and facilitate the evacuation of body heat, ensuring comfort for officers in hot seasons like spring or summer.

Inner Layer of the Udra Motorcycle Suit: Protection Against Wind and Cold

The suit offers great thermal modularity by including a removable windproof lining in the jacket and pants. To further enhance the comfort of officers, both feature knitted fabrics in areas of greatest tension.

Additional Elements for Greater Safety and Ergonomics

The Udra motorcycle suit is equipped with high abrasion-resistant fabric in zone 1 (shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees), which also includes reflective thread to optimize night visibility. It also has an adjustment system aimed at facilitating the suit’s adaptability to the officer’s body.

Always seeking maximum safety and efficiency in any environment or situation, it not only has thermo-fixed reflective elements to enhance night visibility but also offers the possibility to combine materials in HV colour to also achieve  EN ISO 20471 High Visibility Clothing certification.

In short, the Udra motorcycle suit is safe, comfortable, and highly versatile, fully meeting the needs of police officers in their daily tasks. Additionally, it has AA certification according to the  EN 17092:2020 standard, a true quality guarantee.
